Game Basics

What is ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs?

A chill, narrative-driven electronics repair shop management simulator by Mandragora (I Am Future, Skyhill), published by tinyBuild. Set in mid-2000s Tokyo, you repair nostalgic Y2K devices, manage your shop, and shape a branching story through choices. Launched August 6, 2026 on Steam.

Is it multiplayer?

No. Strictly single-player — no co-op or multiplayer.

Is it scary or stressful?

No. It's a cozy game: no time limits, no combat, no fail state. The only deadlines are 3-day online order windows.

How long is it? 15+ hours for the main story per the developers (playstyle-dependent). One review (Gamekult) hit credits in ~10 hours. See the Game Length & 100% Guide for the full breakdown.

Price, Platforms & Editions

How much does it cost?

$19.99 USD on Steam, with a 10% launch discount ($17.99) until August 20, 2026. Regional pricing varies.

What editions are there?

The base game, plus a Supporter Edition bundle (game + digital artbook) available at a discounted bundle price.

What platforms?

Windows (10 x64) and macOS (14+, Apple M1+). No console versions announced.

Is there a demo?

Yes — free demo on Steam since June 15, 2026. Includes extra gadgets (Patento BS, airbrush tool). Progress doesn't carry over.

Devices & Licenses

How many devices can I repair?

~16 named device types across 7 categories at launch (see the Device Database). A marketing "2,000+ devices" figure is unconfirmed (unverified).

Are Atari devices real?

The Atari 2600, Lynx and CX40 joystick are officially licensed. Everything else is a parody (Pokia 3310, Autorolla Razor, Eggotchi, Nony Goman, Palaloid, etc.).

How do licenses work?

Buy licenses to unlock new device types and story progression. Without a license you can accept a device but not finish it. One license must be won in the assembly competition. Full details in the License Guide.

Do I need licenses for everything?

No — the starting device types are license-free. Licenses expand your catalog and raise your income ceiling.

Gameplay Questions

How do I get paid for online orders?

Finished repairs are auto-packed — place the package back on the counter so the courier picks it up. No counter placement, no payment.

How many online orders per day?

Up to 11, each with a 3-day deadline.

Can I sell restored devices?

Yes — buy broken devices on the marketplace, restore them, sell for profit. 5 sales earn "Making Money!".

Is soldering in the demo?

No — the soldering iron is locked in the demo; soldering jobs appear in the full game once the station unlocks.

What are the bills?

Rent (landlord) + bank loan. Paying both earns "All Bills Paid"; refusing triggers "Bankrupt" and a warning.

Does the bike matter?

The bicycle ends your day, saves progress, and starts a new one. Not using it for 168 straight hours earns "Akiba Never Sleeps".

Achievements & Completion

How many achievements? 50 Steam achievements, including 5 hidden ones. One achievement is reported bugged in the current build (100% may need a patch) — details in Known Issues below. Full list: Achievement Guide. Are there Steam features?

Trading Cards, Steam Cloud saves, Family Sharing, and 9 languages (EN, FR, DE, ES, JA, KO, PT-BR, RU, ZH-CN) with full audio + subtitles.

Hardware Questions

What are the system requirements?

Per the official Steam store listing: Windows min — Win10 x64, 2-core/4-thread CPU, 4 GB RAM, GTX 750 Ti, DX11, 1 GB storage. macOS min — macOS 14+, Apple M1, 8 GB RAM, integrated GPU, 1 GB storage. No recommended specs published. See Price & Platforms.

Does it run on Steam Deck?

Known Issues & Bugs

ReStory launched August 6, 2026 in strong shape — Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam — but the launch build has a handful of known issues. None are crash-level, but one blocks a legitimate 100% run, and a couple of others can waste real playtime if you don't know the workarounds. As of August 2026, no official hotfix has been announced.

1. The Bugged Achievement (Blocks 100%)

The problem: one achievement in the current build (v1.0.0) is reported as not unlocking even when its condition is met. Multiple guides confirm the report, but the specific achievement is not publicly named. Impact: a legitimate 100% run may be impossible until a patch. Workaround: none in-game. The only current route to the missing achievement is third-party trainer tools — use at your own risk, and note the achievement may still fail to trigger cleanly. We do not endorse trainers. What to do: play normally and let the achievement unlock naturally; if the bugged one is still locked at the end of your run, wait for the hotfix and re-verify your triggers.

2. Parts Stuck at 74–95% Clean

The problem: certain parts stop responding to cleaning midway — most commonly reported on the Nony PlayMachine disc drive — with the brush, canned air and Sonic Bath all failing to move the percentage. Workarounds, in order:
  1. Zoom in and hunt for hidden grime (resolves most cases).
  2. Buy a whole device of the same type and scrap the stuck part.
  3. Store the dirty part in the box on the left of the workbench, then retrieve it — this reportedly resets the part's state for some players.

See the Cleaning Guide for the full technique context.

3. Day Counter Nuances

The problem: players report days not registering or work hours "wasted." How it actually works: day progress only advances when you go home and sleep (take the bike). Work done between midnight and 8 AM counts toward the current day; returning home before 8 AM ensures the day registers properly. Related quirk: Business Shark (100,000 Yen in a single day) is easier by not ending the day — income accumulates across a long open stretch, so don't take the bike until the total is where you want it.

4. Fixed Repair Pricing — "Repairs Cost More Than the Customer Pays"

The problem: a Steam forum thread complains that repair costs are fixed and that some jobs cost more in parts than the customer pays — and that marketplace units often arrive as junk regardless of seller rating. Context: this is partly by design. The game's economy expects you to clean first and salvage from your junk pile — replacing everything with new parts is a money-loser for most devices (see the Device Database for the value profiles). Seller ratings genuinely don't guarantee condition; the gamble is intentional. Workaround: treat listing descriptions as fiction. Only buy devices priced far below finished sale value, and always keep cash reserves.

5. Steam Deck Controller Layout

The problem: the default controller layout is unfinished — confirmed in community testing of the deck experience. Workarounds:
  • Use a custom Steam Input layout (community layouts are posted and recommended).
  • Community-tested settings are listed in Price & Platforms.

6. Other Community-Reported Nits

ReportStatus
Some cleaning jobs stall at 0% (cursor not touching the component)Usually user error — move the pointer directly over the grime; see Cleaning Guide
One review notes the interface gets less fluid as features stack up (soldering, painting, updates)Reported by TechRaptor — no workaround, mostly cosmetic
No music playlist controlReported by TechRaptor — design choice, not a bug
No official 100% completion possible until the bugged achievement is fixedConfirmed status — see #1

Where to Report Issues

  • Steam Community forums — the official General Discussions board (app 3812600) is the most active channel.
  • tinyBuild / Mandragora support — via the official publisher channels linked from the Steam store page.
  • This wiki — we track reported issues here and update this page when patches land.

Is It Worth Buying?

Buy it if you like:
  • Cozy management sims (House Flipper, PowerWash Simulator, I Am Future)
  • Y2K nostalgia and retro hardware
  • Narrative games with branching choices
  • Meditative, low-pressure gameplay
Wait if you:
  • Need action/combat pacing
  • Dislike cleaning and disassembly loops
  • Want strict challenge or fail states

At $19.99 (or $17.99 at launch discount) with 15+ hours of story and Overwhelmingly Positive reviews, it's an easy recommendation for cozy-sim fans.
