v1.0.0Updated: 2026-08-08
Overview
ReStory gives you a period-accurate repair toolset, plus a catalog of upgrades bought through the in-game Y2K web browser (the "Screwdriver" menu). Tools fall into two groups: core tools you use on nearly every repair, and workshop upgrades that speed up or automate parts of the loop.
Prices are in Yen. Only a few prices are publicly confirmed; the rest remain unverified.Core Tool Catalog
| Tool | What It Does | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Screwdrivers | Open cases, remove/replace screws | Multiple sizes; the correct driver for every screw — wrong sizes strip screws. The single most-used tool. |
| Tweezers | Handle delicate cables and tiny components | Mandatory for phones and keypads |
| Brush | Manual cleaning of loose parts | Move the brush across visible grime; progress only counts when touching actual dirt |
| Canned air (compressed air) | Blow dust off large shells/panels | Consumable — save it for big surfaces, not tiny buttons |
| Soldering iron / station | Repair broken circuit boards | Not in the demo — jobs requiring soldering appear once the station is unlocked in the full game |
| Sonic Bath (ultrasonic) | Machine-clean up to 3 parts in ~30 seconds | Convenience: slower than brushing small parts by hand early, but useful upgraded or run while working another device |
| Shredder | Shred unusable broken parts for yen recovery | Turns junk into cash; buy the cheapest model early-ish |
| Tip jar | Customers leave tips automatically | Free passive income on work you already do |

Purchase Priority (Launch Build Consensus)
Confirmed order recommended by multiple launch-week guides:
| Priority | Purchase | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Screwdriver upgrades | Nearly every repair starts and ends with screws |
| 2 | Brush upgrades | Cleaning appears constantly; upgrades are inexpensive |
| 3 | Tip jar | Passive income on existing work |
| 4 | Sonic Bath | Convenience; better once upgraded |
| 5 | Shredder | Once you accumulate junk parts |
| 6 | Storage trays & shelves | More open projects, organized inventory |
| 7 | Canned air | Consumable, situational |
| 8 | Painting / airbrush, reprogramming gear | Cosmetic/creative — no resale value early |
Tool Tips
- Cleaning is the highest-return activity — it mostly uses reusable tools, so clean-only restorations are nearly pure profit.
- If cleaning is stuck at 0%, the brush pointer isn't touching the grime (the game may play the sound anyway). Move the pointer directly over the dirt and watch the percentage.
- A part in the Sonic Bath may appear "missing" until the cycle finishes — check the bath before ordering a replacement part.
- Upgraded magnifying equipment makes tiny board work (phones, consoles) much faster — worthwhile once phone repairs are routine.
- Organize spare parts by device type — checking inventory fast beats digging through one big pile.
