Overview

ReStory's story lives in its customers. There is no endless parade of random NPCs — the game runs on a cast of recurring regulars, each with a personal storyline that advances through repairs, dialogue and your choices. Buying licenses and completing their orders pushes their stories forward; refusing, helping or revealing things changes how they end.

Reviewers praise the cast — one calls the upstairs neighbor their favorite character in the game — though a few critics note some figures feel like "serviceable archetypes" rather than standouts. This guide covers every character confirmed in the launch build, plus community-reported names that are still being verified.

The Two Headline Characters

The Landlord

The landlord is one of the first characters you meet, and he sets the tone: rent pressure is your first financial constraint (2,000 yen/week for the small space), and his big rubber-buttoned phone becomes one of your earliest repairs. Inside that phone you find a phone number on a post-it note — and whether to give it to him is one of the game's most-cited branching choices.

The Upstairs Neighbor

The undisputed fan favorite. They never speak directly — communication is by post-it note, lowered in a smiley-faced bucket from the floor above. They ask you to fix an Atari joystick for a Pac-Man tournament and recommend review-reading software. Reviewers consistently single them out ("my favorite," per Kyusai Media), and their notes are some of the best flavor text in the game.

How Choices Shape Their Stories

The game's branching narrative means the same customer can end in very different places depending on you:

  • The phone number — hand the landlord the post-it number found inside his phone, or keep it.
  • The former gangster's phone — decide whether to report disturbing content found inside a repair.
  • The lovestruck student — help him confess, or let his crush stay oblivious.
  • The kid's request — refuse payment to earn the Origami achievement and the character's gratitude.

There is no "perfect" answer per community reports — different choices lead to different endings, and the game rewards replays. Full details in the Story Walkthrough.

Community-Reported Names (Unverified)

The following names have circulated in community discussion of the cast, but their exact roles have not been verified against the launch build:

NameStatus
Clara LoftName reported in community discussion — role unconfirmed
GoldieName reported in community discussion — role unconfirmed
Poseidon'tName reported in community discussion — role unconfirmed
Reader beware: treat these as unconfirmed until the community maps the full cast. If you encounter any of these names in-game, the wiki would love to hear about it — verified details will be added here as they surface.

Reviewers' Take on the Cast

  • Kyusai Media: the upstairs neighbor is "my favorite" — the bucket mechanic is a highlight.
  • ZTGD: characters are "serviceable archetypes rather than memorable standouts," though the wacky customers carry much of the game's charm.
  • Sirus Gaming: the story is "anything but chill" — mystery, espionage, betrayal, petty theft and conspiracy among the cast.
  • Shacknews (preview): "wacky customers" were a draw from the demo era.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Cast

  • Read every line of dialogue. Hidden issues and story hints live in customer chatter — including details not on the repair ticket.
  • Complete orders for the same customers repeatedly — their stories advance with each visit.
  • Don't rush decisions. Choice moments are the game's main branching mechanism; save-scumming is not required, but thinking before you click matters.
  • Keep the shop open. Walk-in customers — and their stories — only arrive while the shutter is up.

  • Story Walkthrough — the campaign from day one to the credits, and the branching system behind every character
  • Achievement Guide — character-driven achievements like Origami, plus the references hidden in the cast
  • Beginner Guide — first meetings with the regulars
